In Line with the World
I Tråd Med Verden (In Line with the World) runs sewing and design workshops in vulnerable residential areas, repurposing discarded textiles to create job opportunities and a better quality of life for those who have lost their footing on the labour market. Shaping new connections and generating knowledge about sustainable practices, I Tråd Med Verden’s circular production gives new life to unwanted materials, creating purpose in more sense than one.
Liva Creation
Uniting craft with change, Liva Creation is a socio-economic design company that provides employment opportunities to vulnerable individuals outside the labour market. Offering a more sustainable future for people and planet, Liva Creation upcycles our fabric offcuts into new products. Each creation carries a unique story of positive human development.
Turning Waste into Wisdom
When the Copenhagen-based student housing company UMEUS purchased one of the very first batches of the Passage Stool for their Nordhavn campus, little did they know it would lead to a story of sustainability, innovation and purpose.
Placed in such a versatile environment, it soon became evident that the design required additional reinforcement. But rather than allowing these imperfect pieces to become mere waste, the stools found a new function under the skilled hands of CABAS (Centre for Activity and Social Offerings, Sheltered Employment and Specialised Youth Education), a social enterprise offering the framework for a meaningful and evolving everyday life for adults with physical and/or mental disabilities.
A testament to their dedication to turning waste into opportunity and creating purposeful tasks and new opportunities for at-risk individuals, CABAS ingeniously transformed the Passage stools into functional and stylish shelves.
"When we creatively utilise waste wood and faulty furniture, new and long-lasting products with a distinct character and history emerge. The most important criterion is that the idea behind each new design includes a variety of meaningful tasks for those in employment support," note the managers at the CABAS carpentry workshop, whose collaboration with UMEUS represents a shared commitment to recognising the potential in people and products.
